LOVE

John 21:15-17

Jesus had arose from the grave and appeared.  This makes 3 times to the disciples and on to Mary – 4th in all.

The disciples had gone to their old trade – fishing.

Many of us today go back to the “old” life.

Toiled all night  – caught nothing

But when morning was come, Jesus stood on the shore.

But they knew not that it was Jesus.

They had seen the camp fire on the beach.

**”Service that is out of God’s will is barren.”

Children have ye any meat.

No.

Cast the net on the right side of the ship.

They cast and caught many fish – almost pulled the ship over –

The nets were almost broken.

John said “It’s the Lord!”

When Simon Peter heard it was the Lord; he girt his fishing coat about him for he was naked – and cast himself into the sea.

The other disciples came in a little ship dragging the net with the fish.

As soon as they came to shore they saw the fire coals — fish — and bread.

Jesus said bring of the fish you caught.

Peter went to help with the net and the fish.

One hundred fifty three fish – yet the net was not broken.

Jesus is master even over the net – no one asked “Who art thou?”

They Knew Him.

Jesus said come and dine.

My… would you not like to eat some fish that Jesus cooked?

Jesus took bread and gave to them and fish.

After they had dined Jesus said to Simon Peter.

Simon, son of Jonas, Lovest thou me more than these?

– Yes Lord thou knowest that I love thee.

Feed my lambs – 2nd feed my sheep

Lord thou knowest all things.  Thou knowest that I love thee.

Feed my sheep.

More than these – yourself – the world – friends – family –

John 21: 18 “Verily Verily I say until thee when thou wast young thou girdest thyself and walkest whither thou wouldest; but when thou shalt be old thou shall stretch forth thy hand, and another shall gird thee and carry thee whither thou wouldest not”.

Follow me.  All you have to do is follow me.

5 Things I see about this great man PETER

#1  Peter was Convinced that Jesus was the Christ

No more doubting.  No more denied by the great apostle.  He knew that he truly had found the Messiah.

Acts 1:15 And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples and said “Men and brethren this scripture must needs have been fulfilled which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake.

#2 Peter was Convinced that he had a part in the Proclamation of the Gospel

When the day of Pentecost was fully come they were all with one accord in one place, when they were filled with the Holy Ghost.

They began to speak as the Spirirt gave them utterance.

They were there from everywhere – people of Mesopotamia, Asia, Egypt, Rome – they each heard them speak in their own tongues.  They were amazed.  What meaneth this?

Others mocking said these men are full of new wine.

Then Peter stood up and preached that wonderful message which said repent and be baptized and they gladly received the word.  3000 souls were added to the 120.

Peter and John went to pray about the ninth hour.

A lame man had been placed at the gate of the temple the gate called Beautiful.

Asked an alm of them, Peter said we have no money but we will give you what we have in the name of Jesus Christ rise up and walk.  And he took him by the hand and lifted him up, and the man leaping and praising God …went into the temple and all the people ran together with amazement and wonder.

Peter saw it and said “Why do you wonder this?  You haven’t see anything yet.”  And he preached to them and 5000 were saved and joined the 120 — 8000 total joined to the 120.

#3 Peter was Convinced that Persecution was a part of serving Jesus

Herod killed James the brother of John because it pleased the Jews. He took Peter in also and planned to kill him, but much prayer was made by the church and when he planned to bring him to the people the same night Peter was sleeping and the Angel of the Lord came upon him and a light shined in the prison and he smote Peter on the side. Arise up quickly and his chains fell off from his hands and the prison gate opened to them and Peter was set free.  This was the second time he had been in jail, but the Angel set him free.

#4 He was Committed to Jesus to do the Will of God

We see this when the Angel spoke to Cornelius and told him to send for Peter and he would tell him what he aught to do.  Peter was at Joppa at the house of Simon a tanner who lived by the sea.  God prepared Peter for this.  Peter asleep on the house top when he saw the Heavens open and a great sheet was lowered before him with all manner of beast.. a voice spoke to Peter  “Rise kill and eat.”   Not so Lord, I have never eaten anything common or unclean.

The voice spoke to him again the second time “What God hath cleansed thou shall call not common or unclean.”

This was done 3 times and it was taken up.

Now the men from Cornelius was at the gate.  Cornelius of the Italian band.  Peter went with them.  Cornelius met them and fell down to worship him but he took him by the hand and lifted him up and said I am a man and preached to them — they were all saved.

#5 He was Courageous with the Gospel Message

Peter’s stand for Christian liberty.  If he had not stood, we would have been brought to bondage.

He said we neither our fathers were able to bear.

He was put in jail… beaten with whips…. but stood for the Faith and tells us in the second Epistle of Peter about three worlds

#1 The Old World – destroyed

#2 this present world – condemned

#3 the world to come – which is far better

“Eye hath not seen, Ear hath not heard, neither has it entered into the heart of man what the Father has in store for them that love Him”
