All Christians feel their weakness and their need of power to enable them to do the work of the Lord effectively. It is a consolation to know that power is available in abundance.
It can come from the Lord Jesus Christ who has all power in earth and in heaven. In this text we have the following things about this power.
1. The Promise of Power- “Ye shall receive power.”
These words contain a direct promise of the Lord Jesus. It is made to those who believe in Him and followed Him as disciples.
The promise is positive. It is direct. It is clear. It is for sufficient power to do the work of the Lord.
Surely this same gracious promise of the Lord is to Christians of this day. Hear the promise and accept it.
2. The Person of Power. “After that the Holy Ghost is come upon you”
The Holy Spirirt is the third person of the Trinity. He is God with man. The New Testament teaches that He is here with power to convict the world of sin.
Of righteousness, and judgment to come – and with believers to give all power needed to guide, to teach, to reveal, and to comfort.
Let the Holy Spirit take complete possession of your soul and mind and body and you can have all power needed to do the work of the Lord.
3. The Purpose of Power – “Ye shall be witnesses unto me.”
A witness is one who has personal knowledge of an event and can tell it corretly – Believers should know the Lord, His word, His will, His way, His compassion, His purpose, His grace, and His mercy; and be able to relate to others personal experience with Him.
The power of the Holy Spirit will help accomplish this idea of service.
The Lord give power for this purpose.
Accept the power and use it for His glory.
4. The Plan of Power – “In Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”
Believers are to witness for Christ at home, business, social contacts, in community, country, state, nation – of the earth – no place should be neglected.
5. The Proof of Power.
Christians will know that their witness for Christ is effective when believers are found everywhere – when churches are established in all lands – when Christian schools grow up in every nation – when hospitals are erected to care for feeble and sick humanity – when the poor and weak are cared for – and when people everywhere praise the Lord for His Goodness.
